Who doesn’t wish they had invested in Apple when it was $16 a share? Quite often, timing the market is more intuition than science. Those who know analog to digital inflection points are watching LEDs. Get it right, and enormous wealth can be created. Time it wrong and you’re left in the dust, like Polaroid. It’s easy to look back on digital film, the Internet or mobile phones to see when the perfect conditions of cost, demand and technology converged to make the switch from analog to digital obvious. Looking at the landscape today, energy-efficient lighting, namely LEDs, is the next major market to reap the benefits of going digital.... Continue Reading

Are we there yet? When you are building a start-up, sometimes it’s difficult to judge exactly when it is the right moment to engage in public relations efforts. Coordinated and strategic PR can increase your exposure and help you win new customers, investors, partners and fans. However, companies who engage with the media too soon run the risk of wasting all of their effort. Media exposure at just the right time When engaging in PR activities, timing it right is critical. Technica alumni client, Albeo Technologies is a perfect example of right timing. When Albeo hired Technica, they had a variety of products, customers, awards, and a market that... Continue Reading

It was therefore a source of great delight to me last week as I drove along Interstate 880 through Fremont, CA for what I didn’t see. The signs on the old factory were gone. Those persistent thorns in the side of American solar, had finally vanished, closing a chapter in solar history. It was unfortuante enough that the ill-fated company received DoE loans and then declared bankruptcy. Once the Republican Party attempted to exploit that into what they saw as an Obama scandal, those signs looming over 880 were like knives twisting in the... Continue Reading

It’s easy to forget sometimes that most governments are designed to move slowly and methodically, as to help maintain an equilibrium in society. However, in the face of increasing signs of climate change, this slow pace can be thoroughly frustrating. Whether your government’s reactions to global warming have made you wallow or feel uncharacteristically violent, often focusing on the good that is going on can help ease the tensions of what you think “should” be happening. In this edition we’ll focus on women in the government positions who are working tirelessly to protect our planet.
